I live in Zone 5.
The fairy garden is assembled indoors and attached to two plastic garage floor tiles my husband painted green. The tiles were cut to fit the shape of the outdoor space.
I experimented with the layout a few times before finalizing it. Here is a picture of one of my dry run attempts.
